TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
The main cause of low testosterone in women is natural aging. A woman’s testosterone levels decrease over time, particularly in menopause. Women who have had their ovaries surgically removed or damaged from chemotherapy can also experience low testosterone. The same goes for women taking estrogen treatments, including birth control pills. These can lower a woman’s testosterone levels by increasing sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein in the blood. The signs of low T in women can be commonly misdiagnosed as depression or anxiety. Low T in women has primarily been associated with decreased libido and mood swings.

LOW TESTOSTERONE TREATMENT
There is no cure for age-related low testosterone; once your levels become low they will remain naturally low. However, with synthetic testosterone, we can trick your body into thinking it is producing normal levels. The reactions your body undergoes through its own natural production will be identical when a synthetic version is used. Once you begin therapy you will rapidly notice improvements. As there is no permanent cure, continuous therapy is of the utmost importance. If you decide to discontinue treatment, then your low testosterone levels will return very quickly.
INJECTABLE TESTOSTERONE
The most common and effective treatment for age-related low testosterone is injectable testosterone. For most women, a weekly testosterone injection will correct the problem and is generally well-tolerated by most who use it. Some individuals will need more frequent injections. This is determined by the type of testosterone you use, your testosterone levels, and your improvement of signs and symptoms. Some women will find the idea of injections to be bothersome but it is typically a painless process. If you’re looking for an absolute remedy then this will be your best option

Thyroid
Thyroid hormone is a metabolic hormone secreted by the thyroid gland that regulates temperature, metabolism, cerebral function and energy. When optimized, the metabolism will increase, resulting in weight loss as well as lower cholesterol levels. Thyroid provides protection against cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment and fatigue.
There are over 200 symptoms related to thyroid deficiency such as: weak, cold, tired, fatigued, thin hair, thin skin, thin nails, weight gain, increased body fat, loss of energy and motivation, loss of cognition and memory, poor sense of well-being and depression, menstrual irregularities, bowel dysfunction and constipation. Even with normal thyroid hormone levels, a thyroid deficiency can still be present. It is also important to note that thyroid deficiency is not hypothyroidism. We prescribe several thyroid medications to help balance thyroid issues. We will test your thyroid hormones and monitor treatment with routine labs
DHEA
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a natural steroid made from cholesterol and secreted by adrenal glands. It is a key component in hormonal balance and feeling centered and clear-headed. It’s also a precursor for women’s sex hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, and is known as a feel-good hormone.
Connection Between DHEA for Women and Adrenal Glands
In addition to DHEA, adrenal glands are also responsible for secreting stress hormones and cortisol. When a woman is under chronic personal or professional pressure, adrenal glands are forced to respond by pumping out high levels of stress hormones and cortisol. As a result, they have fewer resources to allocate to DHEA production, which can ultimately disrupt hormonal balance.
Symptoms of Low DHEA Levels and Adrenal Imbalance
DHEA in women plays a critical role in producing adequate amounts of the right hormones to maintain homeostasis and harmony within the body. When a person experiences adrenal exhaustion and decreased DHEA, she can present with malaise, extreme fatigue, decrease in muscle mass, decrease in bone density, depression, joint pain, loss of libido, and lowered immunity.
Supplemental DHEA for Women
We prescribe medication to help balance DHEA issues. We will test your DHEA and monitor treatment with routine labs. Additionally, DHEA supplements have also been used to treat muscle loss, weight loss, osteoporosis, depression, and menopause.
Estradiol
Primarily secreted by the ovaries and secondarily produced by adrenals and visceral fat. Estradiol protects against heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease and memory loss. It also helps protect against vaginal atrophy, urinary incontinence, UTI's and prevents menopausal hot flashes and temperature dysregulation, colon cancer, cataracts and muscular degeneration. Estrogen deficient results in urogenital atrophy, incontinence, sagging skin and breasts, increased skin wrinkles on face, fatigue, depression, mood swings, insomnia, and decreased libido secondary to vaginal atrophy.
Progesterone
Secreted only by the ovaries, natural progesterone protects against uterine and breast carcinoma, osteoporosis, fibrocystic disease, ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, and coronary artery disease. Progesterone has also been shown to decrease headaches and bloating associated with menstruation. Progesterone moderates many side effects of excess estrogen such as fluid retention, bloating, headaches, bleeding, and fibroids. There are progesterone receptors in the uterus, breast, vagina, blood vessels, bones, and brain. This is why progesterone is important for post-menopausal, peri-menopausal, and pre-menopausal women.
